ABTSTRACT

            Mixed ligand complexes of copper(II) and manganese(II) containing 2,2-bipyridine (2,2-Bpy), benzene-1,2,4,5-tetracarboxylic acid (Bztc), 3,4-dicarboxylphenylbenzoic acid (H3tcpb) and 4,4-bipyridine(4,4-bpy) as ligand have been synthesized and characterized by infrared spectroscopy, UV-Vis spectroscopy analysis, solubility test and the results obtained indicated that the ligands were coordinated to the respective metal ions using oxygen and nitrogen moieties.

            The FT-IR spectra were consistent with the functional group in the groups in the metal complexes while the electronic spectra of the complexes display different electronic transitions such as d-d transition, ∏→∏ transition and n→∏* transition. The formation of new bands such as M-N and M-O confirm coordination between the ligands and the metal ions. The solubility test of the complexes reveals that some of the metal complexes are polar and non-polar
